Rationale
(From the EuroVO site) The Virtual Observatory is an international astronomical community-based initiative. It aims to allow global electronic access to the available astronomical data archives of space and ground-based observatories, sky survey databases. It also aims to enable data analysis techniques through a coordinating entity that will provide common standards, wide-network bandwidth, and state-of-the-art analysis tools.
This is part of a series of Workshops organised by the Euro-VO Data Centre Alliance (EuroVO-DCA) aiming at supporting Data Centres from European countries. The Workshop is targeted mainly to those in the Portuguese comunity (although others are also welcome) interested in learning more about the Virtual Observatory (VO). Covered topics include how to publish data in the VO and what sort of tools are available for exploring the VO and how to use them. Financial support is available for a number of participants.
